Interview on BBC Radio Wales

Someone at BBC Radio Wales heard about my Cooper365 project and invited me in today to talk about it.

As you can hear it was only mildly awkward, and I would say it went a lot better than I thought it would.

I’ve cut out the chunk of audio that was the interview (and at the end they played Crooked Barstool to close things off). It turns out this counts as national radio airplay (I often have to check Wikipedia to find out if I even live in a country. Apparently Wales is still a country.) And apparently the BBC pay people 48p for every track they play. HELLYEAH.

Also, I mentioned the song I wrote for Geekpop during the interview and realised I haven’t put this here yet which I’m sure is making you weep all over your keyboards. Here it is.

Ok. Lovely.

Day 289 – Made In Roath

Yesterday I was at the Made In Roath festival in Cardiff doing a songwriting session of some kind. It was straight off the back of a Ukulele Workshop that took place in the garden at Deli Rouge. There was a decent number at the workshop, many total beginners, learning how to play the ukulele. Some people then stuck around and attempted to write my song for Day 289 with me. We managed the first verse and chorus and the first line of the second verse together. It was fun and we got a lot more done than I thought we would in the little time we had and with little idea of how I was going to organise it. Mark and Nick who organise the Uke Nights in Cardiff (and are part of the band the Fflip-Fflops) led the workshop and helped out a great deal with my workshoppy thing. I came up with a chord structure and then passed out paper so people could write certain parts of the lyrics and then we collected them together. It’s obviously not the normal way I go about writing my songs, so it was good to try something new.

I then performed the song on my ukulele last night (in what was my first proper gig) along with 2 of my other tracks on my guitar as part of an evening at The Gower in Roath that closed the festival. It went surprisingly OK. I was nervous, but not as nervous as I thought I’d be. I went with the same tactic as when I spoke at the Oxford event – I tried to ignore that it was even happening until I was up there. It proved quite helpful. I’m pretty pleased I did it, it’s something I would never have thought of doing last year.

To mates that might see this: Sorry I didn’t invite you – I just felt like I’d be less nervous if I didn’t really know anyone there!

Thanks to: Nick Canham, Mark Isaac, Kevin Day, Natalie Healey, Alan Jones, and Lizzy Birchall for writing this with me.

Tracklisting for Mix-Tape

I’ve settled on a tracklisting for this little mix-tape of mine I’m planning on making by the end of October.

The plan: I’m hoping to re-record a bunch of these tracks from my Cooper365 project and then make a video for each of them, I’ll then put these in a little unlisted playlist (Which I will provide the link to. Obviously.) on my YouTube channel and make it like a YouTube album sort of a kind of a sort of a thing.

Now. That’s a decent number of videos, and I work now and stuff. Soooooo, in my last couple of videos I put it out there that it’d be swell if anyone had the time/effort/energy to make a no-budget, simple video for any of these songs. I’ve had some people say they want to which is all kinds of great, and there’s plenty more going if anyone was so inclined! I’ve already made a video for Day 240, so that’s off the list, but all the others are currently up for grabs. Let me know if you want to make a video and I will give you infinite high-fives, just pick a track and email me or tweet at me or something of the like.

I’d like to get this done by the end of October, but that’s really a self-imposed deadline just so that I actually do it. If I’m really struggling then it might be a bit later, but I hope I’ll manage it, with help it’d be a lot easier. But only if you want to. Seriously. Only if you want to.

The Ideas. I Have Them.
